Akbar Haji Mohamad holds an MBA in International Trade from the Texas A&M International Unversity-USA (formely known as Laredo State University), a BBA in Marketing from Western Illinois University-USA, a Post-Graduste Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing-United Kingdom, a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the University of Leicester-United Kingdom and a Certificate in Training and Development from the Chartered Instute of Personnel and Development-United Kingdom.

After being exposed to the banking business both as a Time-Scale Clerk and Sub-Accountant 1 with Malayan Banking Berhad in the early 1980s, Akbar’s banking career took-off when he joined the Hongkong & Shaghai Banking Corporation Malaysia Berhad (HSBC) as a Resident Officer in September 1985. In HSBC he held various posts in Coporate Marketing, Trade Services, Operations and Relief. His last post with HSBC was as a Resident Manager/Head, Trade Services in HSBC Sibu, Sarawak.

Prior to as a director, Akbar was employed as the Senior Manager of Operations for SCOPE International (M) Sdn. Bhd. (a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank PLC). SCOPE was granted MSC-status by the Malaysian Government. His direct responsibility includes Trade Services and Credit Operations. He was one of the pioneers and was with the company during the start-up until cut-over/ “live” dates achieved for agreed products processed.

Akbar left PKHSB to join DPMM. He is now with CIMB Bank.
