“Fit for a king”
SONGKET belongs to the brocade family of textiles. The term “songket” comes from the Malay word menyongket, (meaning to embroider). However, strictly speaking, songket is not embroidery. It is woven using the supplementary weft technique.
In the songket process, supplementary metallic threads are inserted in special lengths in between the silk warp (lengthwise) threads of the main background cloth. These special threads – or weft (crosswise) – float or pass over three, five or seven silk warp threads, and under one on the loom to form designated patterns, which contrast in colour and texture with the ground or base cloth. |

And the Mac has helped Dark Horse expand into film and television, producing blockbusters from 1994’s The Mask to this summer’s Hellboy II. |
